The first carousels as we know them did not appear in European carnivals and fairgrounds until the 19th century, and like this masterpiece have always been feats of engineering.
At its heart, this pendant houses a miniature carousel, a marvel of mechanical ingenuity and delicate beauty. Three horses, one white, one rose and one yellow gold, rotate in a mesmerizing dance when the tiny handle is wound, and are reflected in minuscule diamond mirrors. The tiny handle is set with a cabochon cut ruby.
Suspended beneath this enchanting carousel are four sapphire briolettes, set in flower like clasps, their hues as vibrant as the dreams they inspire. Red, yellow, pink, and blue, these gemstones sway gently with every movement, casting dancing prismatic reflections.
Encircling the rim of the carousel, delicate seed pearls, immitating lightglobes, add an air of fairgound wonder. The roof of the carousel is adorned with a rainbow of pear-shaped sapphires, and tiny pave set diamonds sit around the perimieter and cover a semi-sphere holding the pendant loop in place. The base of the loop is also studded with a single brilliant diamond.
